Let me take a moment here to share a little something about my Mother. I like to call her a "Gusher", as in gushes forth with love, praise and good thoughts. It is a very endearing quality and my sisters and I all can do a pretty good imitation of her saying "Mi hijita, this, that and the other" over any occasion. ;)

Her contributions to the baby quilt are no exception and she sent not one, not two, not three, not four, but FIVE beautiful squishes! Squishes #130 - 134 are from my Mom and Dad, Victoria and Patricio Vela in Glendale , AZ. Thank you for the memorable and loving contributions that will be cherished for generations to come.

My sister Diana and her family from Scottsdale, AZ sent Squish #125. This is a very special squish because the fabric comes from a nightie her two children wore when they were babies. The wish card says:

"Our wish for you is that throughout your life you always FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS! This fabric taken from a nightie worn by your cousins, Joey and Danny. As it did for them, may it always keep you warm!"

It has been a few weeks since I have posted but now is a great time because squishes from family and close friends have started to arrive!

Squishes #118 and #119 are from the Trebon family in Marietta, GA. Jenni is a dear friend who was my sorority sister at the University of Arizona. Roman is her darling husband and Hayden is their little baby boy that was just born in February. I think Hayden and our daughter may make a cute couple... who knows? ;) Thank you for the beautiful Purple Paisley fabric, adorable Baby Alphabet fabric and very sweet wishes!

Squishes #120 - #123 are from Sean and Jenifer Colligan and their children, Rachel, Aidan and Rory, they live in Parkville, MO. Sean is one of Dan's brothers. They were very generous and sent four wonderful squishes! Sean and Jenifer each sent one, and Rachel and Aidan made special ones too. We will treasure these forever! The fabrics feature a Blue Wave, Colorful Fiesta, Red and Pink Daisies and Pink and Green Leaf patterns. They will look beautiful in the quilt!

Squish #124 comes from Joe, Gretchen and Terry Colligan in Sneads Ferry, NC. Joe and Gretchen are Dan's parents and Terry is another one of Dan's brothers (he has 4). The Earth Tone Floral fabric is lovely and the wishes are very special. Gretchen is a published poet and created this custom poem that is so touching and beautiful. Terry also sent a kind wish about learning from, and teaching our baby. Thank you!

WOW! That is all I can say...

Well, of course I can, and will say more. ;)

I arrived home from a business trip and was astounded to find FIVE squishes waiting for me. I was even more astounded to discover three of them were from ladies who are not even on my list for exchanging! Turns out they joined one of my Yahoo group swaps after I had mailed my batch out. I will immediately send theirs out, they deserve them after their very lovely and generous additions! I asked that group to knock me off their list if they haven't already sent their squishes out because I am now at 100 fabric squares and need room for my family and friends to make it to 100 wishes!

I joined another swap and can't believe the treasures are already rolling in! I am VERY excited about this swap, it is the "Cute and Cuddly Critters" swap. To say I have been SWAMPED is like saying we all love Chinese children! Between my full-time career, side business of real estate investing, participating on the Board of Directors and Chinese New Year Committee for FCC-AZ and trying to pay proper attention to my husband, three little angel dogs and household, I am tapped out!

BUT, hope springs eternal and February should be the last really hard month for awhile. It is a welcome relief to add to my 100GWQ blog with these lovely additions...

You know, I was feeling sad because I am collecting so many squishes so quickly, and I thought I would have to give up my new favorite hobby of trading... BUT, some GENIUS in my 100GWQ Yahoo Group suggested I collect 100 wishes! That means I have MANY more to go since most people send two or more fabric squares with a single wish. I am so excited that the journey continues...

Squish #61 comes from Rebecca in Kennesaw, GA (I used to live in Atlanta!). What a beautiful and carefully crafted wish card! I love the Chinese Toile print too!

One of the MOST stunning fabrics I have ever received comes from Amy in Moorestwon, NJ! Squish #62 and 63 feature a vivid Koi Scene and Lilac Chinese Toile. Me likey A LOT!

Catching Up!

I have been so busy this past week... my husband and I are flipping our first house and have been working all day every day since the 26th doing what we can before the big guns come in and replace the flooring, kitchen, open walls, etc. Very exciting but time consuming!

Always a pleasure to present new squishes, I simply never tire of racing to the mailbox full of hope and returning home anxious to view the new treasures! This latest batch does not disappoint!

Squish #49 comes from Andrea in Bangor, Maine. The vibrant Rainbow fabric came with a lovely wish on a fun postcard from Andrea's home state. Very fun!

Bonnie from Rochester, NY sent Squishes #50 and #51, and threw in a bonus #52! These are all very sweet fabrics, I especially like the Pink Castles, although the Hot Pink Peonies and Purple Asian print are just darling too!

As I mentioned on a previous post, Dan and I spent our honeymoon in Australia and New Zealand. Many, many thanks to Betty from Australia for helping us get this adventurous print from New Zealand! Thanks also for the assist from her pal in Scottsdale, AZ! This Squish #53 will hold a special place in our hearts as we share its significance with our daughter. After all, the hope of having our own family was born when we got married. :)

Merry Christmas everyone! DH (darling hubbie) came through once again and bought me a scanner/printer/fax machine combo for Christmas! Right on! Now I can scan my squishes - such TOTAL JOY! He also gave me his "old" desktop (I use the term loosely as it is 18 months young) so I don't have to use my work laptop or my personal laptop which literally churns when I use it for more than 30 minutes. Well done pookie! ;)

I am left wondering however, if this was just a ploy to keep me out of his office where he sports a laser jet printer/fax and flat screen HUGE desktop... hmmm.... I won't stop going in there... he doesn't need to play video games that much... although if that's his worst habit and it keeps him quiet I suppose I am lucky! ;)

OK, back to the topic at hand... KILLER squishes have arrived. May I present Squishes #44 - 47 from Teri in Saginaw, TX. Teri and I have swapped several times and she feels like an old pal already! I think she is in my DTC/LID Yahoo Group too - I must meet this woman with exquisite taste in fabrics!

Squish #48 comes from Cathy in Ontario, Canada. Cathy and I swapped several times and she was gracious enough to send me a unique fabric rather than two of the same. :) She also has consistently impressive taste!

I received Squishes #42 and #43 from Mary Ann and Rick in Mahwah, NJ. Not only are these GORGEOUS Asian themed fabrics, they are also purple, which is such a fun, girly color! One fabric is a Chinese Countryside with Pagodas, and the other is Chinese Parasols with gold thread outlines. Exquisite!

Let me take a moment here to sincerely say THANK YOU to everyone who has exchanged a squish with me. Now that I have collected over 40 (WOW!) I can start to imagine the design for the quilt and the Good Wishes Book. I just love how each squish is so unique and thoughtful. This may possibly be the most creative and fun adventure I have ever embarked on! :)

Without further ado, on to the presentation of the latest treasures...

Charming, fun and spunky Squishes #35 and #36 come from Phala in Mount Gilstead, Ohio. Do you LOVE the bees or what? AND, the pink retro fabric is groovy! ;)

The Gorgeous Butterflies and Antique Floral prints are Squishes #37 and #38. They come from Angie in Somerset, WI. Both of these fabrics are so fresh and stimulating!

"I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack is the wish and inspiration behind Squishes #39 and #40. They come from Kim in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This is the second swap for me and Kim and she has consistently shown her very good taste in fabric and wish selections! The Dancing Fairy and Lilac and Lavender fabrics are so pretty...

A very bold and exciting contribution comes from Debbie in Sellersville, PA. Squish #41 features a Jungle Scene in vibrant colors. Very fun!

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells...

Jingle all the way to the mailbox for more squishes! Squishes #27 and 28 come from Autumn in Toledo, Ohio. The Pink Paper Doll fabric is so adorable and the Chinese Character fabric is very elegant. I love the mixture of playful and sophisticated fabrics, this quilt will be in our family forever and our child will appreciate different aspects of it as she ages.

I decided I would make this blog light and breezy, and focus on the fabrics more than the wishes because it helps keep my mind off the wait for our child and burn off some creative energy. However, every so often I receive a wish that really touches my heart and I am compelled to share. Squishes #29 and 30 come from Katherine in Cheyenne, WY. Her wish is:

I think those words are so beautiful and I immediately thought of my husband. As difficult as marriage can be, what a gift it is to learn to love unconditionally and purely. I wish for our child to know this type of love.

OK, back to the focus on fun before I tear up... I kind of finagled Squish #31. I read a post on our 100 Good Wishes Quilt Yahoo Group that someone had fabric to swap that featured Australia. Well, Dan and I spent our blessed honeymoon there and I thought how perfect to include that in our child's quilt! So, sure enough I managed to get a piece of the treasure from Betty in Tasmania, Australia.

I had a two day business trip earlier this week and the first thing I asked my husband when I got home was "Did you check the mail?". When he said he hadn't, off I went to collect more treasures...

I have joined two group swaps, one for Asian fabrics and one for Pink and Purple fabrics. Several ladies also joined both swaps so we are trading multiple times. Squishes #16-19 are from Kelly in Ontario, Canada. She has lovely taste!

Cathy, also from Ontario, Canada sent Squishes #20-22. These fabrics are exquisite in their color and detail. Me likey A LOT! :)

That line is so appropriate because each day that I receive a squish I just feel loving thoughts from the sender. We may be strangers to each other but the bond is undeniable. I have never skipped to the mailbox so many days in a row never to be disappointed - there's always a squish waiting!

You would not believe how many families have or are in the process of adopting a child from China. The community is enormous and as different as we all are, the one thing we have in common is the pure intention to parent an orphan. This shared dream connects us. There is a Chinese proverb that says it best: "An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet, regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but never break."

I have joined several Yahoo! groups for support and have found many other people looking to make a quilt for their child. The VERY fun part is signing up for a swap. So far, I have already sent out over 50 fabric swatches and can't wait for swatches from others to start rolling in. :) Stay tuned!
